Safari: what to expect

Safari Park Dvůr Králové is divided into three parts - a classic part of the park, a walking safari with large open enclosures and a drive through safari. The driving safari is referred to as Josef Wagner's African Safari and Lion Safari. The route is about 5,5 km long.

The beginning runs between large enclosures of African ungulates and carnivores. The genuine African safari begins a little further on, in the Netřeba creek valley. There are huge plains where animals are free to roam while you enter their territory.

You'll pass among elands, sable antelopes, waterbucks, herds of zebra, wildebeests, watusi or giraffes grazing in the vast grasslands, see pelicans floating on the surface of a pond or strolling ostriches.

The road from the African Safari leads on to the Lion Safari. You can visit the territory of Barbary lions that are already extinct in the wild. The Lion Safari was opened in 2015 and is the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic. Note, it is strictly forbidden to take dogs or any other animals to the Lion Safari!

How to go on safari?

Visitors have three options to enjoy our safari.

Your own car - Safari Park Dvůr Králové is the only place in the Czech Republic where you can go among African animals in your own car. You can buy a ticket at the ticket office in the main car park or online. The price for one vehicle is 390 CZK. It is necessary to have a regular ticket for each passenger. This can then be used for a walking tour of the grounds (applies for one entry, it is not possible to go in and out multiple times). Entry to the safari by private car is only possible until 16:30 and exclusively in the summer season (approximately from late April to early October, depending on the weather).

  • No dogs or other animals are allowed in the vehicle! Dogs can be left in prepared pens at the entrance to the safari
  • It is possible to enter the African Safari and the Lion Safari by your own car
  • To enter the safari by your own car, you must purchase a ticket for each passenger, valid for the walking tour of the area

Safari opening times

Safari operates only in Summer Season (approximately late April to early October depending on weather conditions). During this period, our gates open at 9 am. Access by car is allowed until 16:30. The timetables of the Safaribus and Afrika trucks are not fixed. Departure times are subject to the current demand.

How long can I stay on safari?

When travelling in your own car, it is possible to stay as long as you want and need to. The only restrictions are the safari opening times, so you need to leave the safari before 6pm. The Africa truck ride takes 50 minutes, the Safaribus ride takes approximately 20 minutes.

I want to have privacy on the ride, but I also want to learn something

In this case, we recommend purchasing the Offroad safari experience, where you will have the safari and an expert guide all to yourself. This experiential program takes place in the evening when the safari is closed to visitors. The experience can also be supplemented with an African dinner. For more information, see the Experiences section.
